Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today. Mr Modi arrived in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi last night which is the second leg of his three-nation visit to France, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The two leaders will discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, frequent high-level interactions between India and the UAE testify  the vibrant bilateral relations. He said, the visit will further strengthen the multifaceted bilateral ties with the UAE.


The Prime Minister will also formally launch RuPay card to expand the network of cashless transactions abroad. .He along with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohd Bin Zayed, is also expected to jointly launch the commemorative stamp on Mahatma Gandhi to mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Bapu. Mr Modi will also receive the highest civilian award of UAE - Order of Zayed. A report from our correspondent:


"The award has been conferred on Prime Minister Modi in recognition of the pivotal role played by him in enhancing bilateral ties. Acknowledging the award , the Prime Minister in an interview to the official news agency of UAE said that this honour is of special significance to him & all indians. He said it also symbolizes the brotherly ties between the two countries & their people. PM Modi also said that India has found a partner in the UAE to achieve its ambitious dream of achieving a 5 trillion USD economy. PM will interact with the prominent NRI investors in the UAE. Mr Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi from Paris after successfully concluding his France tour during which he held bilateral meetings with President Emmanuel Macron and premier Edouard Philippe. Prime Minister Modi also addressed the Indian community at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Addressing the Indian diaspora, he said, the resounding mandate to the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls is for building a 'new India. Mr Modi asserted that corruption, nepotism, loot of people's money, and terrorism have been reined in like never before.


"आज नये भारत में भ्रष्टाचार, भाई-भतीजावाद, परिवारवाद, जनता के पैसे के लूट, आतंकवाद जिस तरह लगाम कसी जा रही है वैसा पहले कभी नहीं हुआ। साथियो नये भारत में थकने, रुकने का सवाल ही नहीं पैदा होता।"


Hailing the move of doing away with the practice of triple talaq, Mr Modi said how can a 'new India' accept such injustice to Muslim women.


Ahead of his address, the Prime Minister, through video conferencing, inaugurated a memorial in honour of the victims of two Air India crashes in France in the 1950s - 60s.


From Abu Dhabi, Mr Modi will visit Bahrain where he will hold talks with King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The Prime Minister will also witness the formal beginning of the re-development of the temple of Shreenathji - the oldest in the Gulf region before returning to France tomorrow to attend the G7 Summit meetings. Mr Modi's visit to Bahrain is significant as it will be the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country. The Prime Minister will also meet and interact with the Indian diaspora during the visit.

India and Bahrain have economic and trade relations for over several centuries. Bahrain industrial diversification policy played an important role in enhancing economic co-operation between both the countries. New job opportunities in different sectors attracted a large number of Indian expatriates to Bahrain. More from our correspondent:


"Bahrain has been a favorite destinations for indian nationals working as expatriates. Arun from Kerala an electronic engineer told AIR  that a sizeable number of doctors, engineers, bankers managers and other professionals are also playing a significant role in socio-economic development of Bahrain.


"Lot of expatriates are contributing a lot towards the Bahrain and ofcourse for the Indian economy its a boost that many of the people are working in many foreign countries like Bahrain. It is also providing a very good atmosphere for the Indians to be all together."

The government has unveiled a series of measures to achieve higher economic growth. It has withdrawn enhanced surcharge on Foreign Portfolios Investors FPIs, restoring the pre-budget position. Surcharge on domestic investors in equity markets has also been withdrawn. Briefing media in New Delhi last evening, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, in order to encourage investment in the capital market, the government has decided to withdraw the enhanced surcharge on long and short-term capital gains arising from transfer of equity shares and units.


The government has also decided to withdraw angel tax provisions for startups and their investors.


The government has also decided for the upfront release of seventy thousand crore rupees, additional lending and liquidity to the tune of five lakh crore rupees by providing upfront capital to Public Sector Banks. This will benefit corporates and retail borrowers, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and small traders. Banks have also decided to pass on the rate cuts through Marginal Cost of Funds Based Landing Rate reduction to benefit all borrowers.


The government has reduced EMI for housing, vehicle and other retail loans by directly linking Repo rate to interest rates.


"Today's environment demands that the banks become a bit more reasonable. This results in reduced EMI for housing loans, vehicles and other retail loans by directly linking repo rate to the interest rates which means, the moment the reduction happens it will directly benefit the customers, end costumers. Working capital loans for industry will also become cheaper as a result."

The Jammu and Kashmir government has asked opposition leaders not to visit the Valley as it will disturb the gradual restoration of peace and normal life. In a statement issued last night, it also said the visit by politicians will be in violation of restrictions that have been imposed in many areas of the Valley. The statement comes close on the heels of a proposed visit by opposition leaders today to assess situation in the Kashmir Valley.

Over 200 accounts have been suspended by Twitter which were spreading fake narratives on the Jammu and Kashmir situation in the social media during the last week. Majority of these accounts were being operated from Pakistan. Recently, there has been a flood of fake news about peoples sufferings in the Kashmir valley. A careful analysis shows that such news stories are nothing but a farce and far from reality.


Old videos and photos are being circulated in the social media which have been claimed as recent pictures of Jammu and Kashmir. This is again fake news. A couple of Pakistani media channels shared a ten-year old photo and made false claims.

Janmashtami, is being celebrated in different parts of the country today with religious fervor and gaiety.


In Uttar Pradesh, Mathura and Vrindavan are fully geared to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. A report from our correspondent:


"The temples have been  richly decorated with flowers and electric lights leaving granduer and divine look. Several  Thousands of devotees not only from country but from abroad have already flocked in Mathura to have a glimpse of incarnation of their deity Nandlal at Janam Bhumi at mid night. The whole town is filled with religious fervor and gaiety. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will reach Mathura this afternoon and participate in various Janmasthami programs including others. with MS Yadav, this is Subgha kaul, AIR News, Lucknow"


In Gujarat the main celebrations are being held at Jagatmandir- Dwarika and Lord Ranchhodrai Temple in Dakor. Our correspondent has filed this report:


"Devotees are participating in special pujas and  functions being held at Bagawat Vidhyapeeth at Sola and Iskon temple in Ahmedabad. Large number of devotees have started gathering at Dwarika and Dakor to participate in special Janmashtami Mahotasva. At Dwarika, after the morning pujas, the devotees are waiting for Shayan Bhog, Shayan Arti and Maha Bhog followed by Janmashtami Mahotsav during the midnight. Devsthan Committee of Dwarka has arranged a special live web casting of Shri Krishna Janmotsav. YOGESH PANDYA, AIR NEWS, AHMEDABAD."

In Maharashtra, a four storey building collapsed in Shanti Nagar area of Bhivandi near Mumbai in wee hours. At least fifteen people are feared trapped in the debris. The National Disaster Response Force was called immediately and they have rescued four persons till now. Fire tenders also rushed to the venue.

A UN Security Council meet targeted China and Pakistan for persecution of their religious minorities. Western powers such as the US and UK criticised China and Pakistan for the oppression faced by Christians, Ahmadis, Uighurs and other ethnic minorities.


Addressing the meeting, US Ambassador for International Religious Freedom Samuel Brownback said religious freedom is essential for achieving peace and stability within nations and among nations. He then called out Pakistan for the persecution of religious minorities that continue to suffer in the country.

In Badminton, India has been assured of two more medals at the BWF World Championships in Basel, Switzerland with PV Sindhu and B Sai Praneeth entering the semi-finals. In the quarters yesterday, Sindhu defeated world No. 2 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei . In her semifinal match today, Sindhu will clash with Chen Yu Fei of China.


On the other hand, B. Sai Praneeth defeated Indonesia's Jonatan Christies in the men's singles to seal the semifinal spot. He will next take on defending champion and world No.1 Kento Momota of Japan in the semifinals today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people in the country and abroad in his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme on All India Radio at 11 AM tomorrow. It will be the third edition of the programme after Mr Modi assumed office during the second term.
