In the Karnataka Assembly discussion on the vote of confidence is continuing beyond the deadline fixed by the Governor Vajubhai Vala. Meanwhile Speaker K.R.Ramesh Kumar adjourned the house till 3.00 pm. Voting is yet to take place.

Earlier today, as soon as the House assembled, Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar asked the legislators to extend co-operation to run the House smoothly. He then asked the Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy to initiate the discussion on confidence motion on the second day today. Initiating the debate on trust vote Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said, the nation is keeping a close eye on Karnataka. He said, after 14 months the government has come to the final stage. He alleged that from the day one BJP is trying to topple the state government. He asked the BJP for a discussion and said BJP can form the government on Monday or Tuesday. Kumaraswamy asserted that he will not misuse the power.More from our correspondent:

"Karnataka Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar today dismissed suggestions that he was trying to delay the vote on the confidence motion moved by the Chief MinisterH.D.Kumaraswamy to decide the fate of the government.  Meanwhile rebel Congress MLA MTB Nagaraj expressed shock over the withdrawal of Ramalinga Reddy resignation. In a video released from Mumbai MTB Nagaraj expressing shock at Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy’s decision to withdraw his resignation. Nagaraj is among the fifteen rebel legislators who have resigned from the government. Like yesterday 20 legislators were absent today also. WITH ARTI RANA R.MURTHY, AIR NEWS, BENGALURU."


The Centre and the Assam government today moved the Supreme Court seeking extension of the July 31st deadline for finalisation of the National Register of Citizens, NRC.

The Centre told an Apex Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi that India cannot be the refugee capital of the world.

The Union and state government also sought to include sample verification of the citizens in the NRC, saying lakhs of people have been wrongly included in areas bordering Bangladesh due to involvement of local officers.

The first draft of the NRC for Assam was published on the intervening night of December 31, 2017 and January 1st, 2018 in accordance with the top court's direction. Names of 1.9 crore people out of the 3.29 crore applicants were incorporated then.


The Supreme Court today asked the special judge conducting trial in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case to deliver the verdict within nine months from today. A bench of Justices R F Nariman and Surya Kant said the recording of evidence in the case should be completed within six months.

The bench also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to pass appropriate orders within four weeks to extend the tenure of the special judge, who is set to retire on September the 30th.   

The top court said, the extension of tenure of the special judge will only be for the purpose of concluding the trial and delivering the verdict in the case. During the extended tenure, he will remain under the administrative control of the Allahabad High Court.

The special judge had on Monday moved the apex court seeking six more months to conclude the matter.


The Supreme Court today sought assistance of Attorney General K K Venugopal in dealing with a plea seeking declaration of minority community on the basis of state-wise population data instead of national data.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose took note of the submissions of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi that the law which allows declaration of minority community on the basis of national data was illegal.

The bench asked BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, who has filed a PIL on the issue, to supply a copy of the petition to the office of the Attorney General and listed it for hearing after four weeks.


The Congress members staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha today over the political developments in Karnataka. Speaking on the issue after the question hour, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary alleged that the elected Government is being pulled down in Karnataka and the role of the autonomy of the Speaker is being questioned. The treasury benches objected to the allegations made by the Congress that BJP has a role in the coalition Government being pulled down. The Speaker appealed to the Congress members not to raise state issues in the Parliament. Subsequent to which the Congress members staged a walk out. Earlier in the day the principal opposition party members had trooped into the well of the House, shouting slogans and displaying placards.


The Right to Information (Amendment) Bill 2019 was introduced in Lok Sabha today. Introducing the bill, Minister of state for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said that the amendment will institutionalize, streamline and improve ease of delivery of Right to Information Act. He refuted apprehension of opposition members that the amendments will dilute the Act. The amendment, he pointed out will authorize the Government to frame rules under the Act. He charged that the rules were defective when the Act was passed earlier and this Government is streamlining them now.


Over 413 lakh hectare of land have been covered under cultivation till 12th of this month in the current Kharif season. The area is less than the normal of the corresponding week by 7.44 percent. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, the pulses have been sown in over 34 lakh hectare and oilseeds in around 76 lakh hectare. He said, as per MeT Department report, out of 36 meteorological sub -divisions, two sub -divisions received excess, 15 sub-divisions normal and 19 sub- divisions deficient rainfall till the 15th of this month.


Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan has said the Government is committed towards ensuring inclusive, holistic and sustainable growth and is working towards achieving 5 trillion dollar economy by the 2024. Addressing Energy Horizons 2019 in New Delhi, Mr. Pradhan said, India is embracing the global energy transition and is expected to become the 5th largest economy overtaking the  United kingdom. Renewable energy is becoming cheaper and faster source of energy globally as well as for India.

" The robust growth of india in the last five years has been achieved through a series of policies reform, covering the vast spectrum of economic and social activities. Our government remains committed to instrusive holistic and sustainable high economic growth. We ar working on a mission made to build India into a 5 trillion economy by 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited people to share their valuable inputs for his Independence Day speech on the 15th of August. In a tweet, Mr Modi asked people to contribute their thoughts on the specially created Open Forum on the NaMo App. He said, their words will be heard by 130 crore Indians from the ramparts of the Red Fort. This is an opportunity for the public to be part of the Independence Day celebration and contribute towards nation building.


The Enforcement Directorate, ED has arrested the owner of IMA jewels Mohammed Mansoor Khan in New Delhi. Khan had fled to Dubai earlier and he was arrested on landing in Delhi. A lookout circular was issued against him by both SIT and ED.

Earlier, ED had filed a case of money laundering against IMA Jewels in an alleged ponzi scam in Karnataka. As many as 26 thousand complaints have been filed by the investors with the police against the IMA jewels' store.


Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate, ED has attached assets worth one crore 43 lakh rupees of Sweka Powertech Engineering Private limited in the Commonwealth Games Scam. The attached assets consists of an Industrial plot in Mewat, Haryana and a fixed deposit of 59 lakhs rupees in the name of the company.


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that he has ordered suspension of 4 officials of Ghorawal area of Sonbhadra district where 10 people were killed in a clash on Wednesday. He said the main accused in this case along with 25 other persons named in the FIR have already been arrested by the Police.

In his statement in the assembly today the Chief Minister said that the foundation of this incident was laid in 1955 when the then Tehsildar did the unlawful act of registering the land of Gram Samaj in the name of Adarsh Cooperative society.

Meanwhile Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained briefly by police in Mirzapur while she was on her way to meet victims of firing case in Sonbhadra, where section 144 has been imposed. Earlier she met with injured persons of the incident in Varanasi.


The Election Commission has issued  a show cause notice to the Nationalist Congress Party,  Trinamool Congress and  Communist Party of India regarding withdrawal of National Party status after the dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections. Sources said, the Commission has asked them to explain why their national party status should not be revoked. They have been asked to respond to the notice issued yesterday by the 5th of next month.


In Afghanistan, at least six people were killed and 27 injured in a powerful bomb explosion outside the gates of Kabul University this morning. According to police no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Kabul police spokesman Ferdous Faramarz said  the early morning blast also set two vehicles ablaze although it wasn't clear if the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber or a remotely detonated bomb.

In Badminton, ace Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu will face Japanese rival Nozomi Okuhara in the women's singles quarterfinal of Indonesia Open today. Sindhu defeated Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt in the pre-quarter final yesterday.

Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar has been inducted into the International Cricket Council's Hall of Fame along side South African pace legend Allan Donald.

Joining them was two-time World Cup-winning Australian woman cricketer Cathryn Fitzpatrick.

At the induction ceremony held in London recently, Tendulkar said, it is an honour to be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame which cherishes the contribution of cricketers over generations.


Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange declined 518 points or 1.33 per cent to trade at 38,379. Nifty at National Stock Exchange also fell 172 points or 1.48 per cent to trade at 11,425.

Howener, the rupee at forex market strengthened 15 paise to around 68 rupees and 81 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.

"In the short span of implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, PMKVY, the State Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is presently imparting training in 14 Sectors and 26 Job Roles .Through the scheme, 1,346 youths have been successfully placed across the globe. Miss T. Sadammenla Ao from Mon district , who is currently placed in the aviation sector, shared how PMKVY has helped her in fulfilling her dream of becoming a cabin crew.

(However,  the Department under  PMKVY  had been kind enough to take the initiative in employing the youths in Nagaland and help us fulfill our dreams by providing us with world class standards of training in institute like the Emporium Institute)

Currently, 2,431 youths are undergoing across multiple sectors in various job roles across the country.
