Polling for thethird phase of Lok Sabha elections concluded last evening. 66 per cent pollinghas been recorded in this phase. Briefing media in New Delhi, Senior DeputyElection Commissioner Umesh Sinha said, except for minor incidents, pollingremained peaceful in 116 constituencies and Anantnag district of Anantnag LokSabha constituency. Mr Sinha said, out of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, pollshave concluded in 303 constituencies.

"The votersexercise their constitutional mandate, these account for about 20 per cent ofthe total seat of Lok Sabha. A total of 22 state and union territories haveconcluded their elections completely by the third phase. So polls were by andlarge peaceful.

Assam recordedmore than 80 per cent polling. In Tripura, voter turnout was around 79 per centwhile West Bengal recorded around 78 per cent polling. Kerala, Daman and Diu,Dadara and Nagar Haveli and Goa also recorded more than 70 per cent polling. InJammu and Kashmir, voter turn out was around 13 per cent.

In Odisha, 64per cent polling was recorded for both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections whichwere held simultaneously.

In Assam,re-polling has begun at 7 this morning at 5 polling stations in Karimganj andAutonomous District seats. Polling was held in both the constituencies in thesecond phase. Re-polling will conclude at 5 pm.


Electioneeringhas gained momentum for the remaining four phases of Lok Sabha polls. Topleaders of various political parties are addressing rallies across the countrytoday.

Prime MinisterNarendra Modi will address public meetings in Jharkhand and West Bengal. OurRanchi correspondent has filed this report-

"Electioncampaign is underway in full swing in Jharkhand. senior BJP leader and PrimeMinister Narendra Modi is to address an election rally at Lohardaga. yesterdayhis 2.5 kilometre road show in Ranchi had seen massive crowds. BJP seniorleader and Union Home minister Rajnath Singh address a rally in Itkhori wherehe accused Congress party of weakening government resolve to fight terrorism.JMM leader in his election rally at Ranka yesterday accused BJP government ofignoring former interest. Rajesh Sinha,AIR, news Ranchi."

In Bihar, topleaders of NDA and the grand alliance will hold rallies in favour of theircandidates. BJP President Amit Shah will address three election meetings. Areport-

Rashtriya Lok Samta Party Chief UpendraKushwaha and Chief of Vikassheel Insaan Party Mukesh Sahni will hold electionrally at Benipur in Dabhanga. Jitan Ram Manjhi of Hindustani Awam Morcha isalso scheduled to address rally. JD(U) President Nitish Kumar addressedelection meetings yesterday in Munger and Begusarai in support of NDAcandidates. "CongressPresident  Rahul Gandhi will addresspublic meetings  at Unnao, Kanpur andLakhimpur khiri. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will campaign at Fatehpur  and Hamirpur constituencies. BJP leadersincluding Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Keshav Prasad Maurya, Dr DineshSharma, Uma Bharti will address poll rallies at several places including EtawahLucknow ,Faizabad, Chandauli and Mohanlalganj. Samajwadi Party PresidentAkhilesh Yadav will campaign in Hardoi and Kanpur. Dimple Yadav will holdRoadshow in Kanpur Dehat district. MSYadav news Uttar Pradesh."


Scrutiny ofnominations for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections will take place today.The filing of nominations for this phase ended last evening. The last date forwithdrawal of candidature is Friday.

59constituencies spread over 7 states will go to polls in this phase on the 12thof May. The states where voting will take place in this phase are Uttar Pradesh14 seats, Haryana 10, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal 8 each, Delhi 7 andJharkhand 4 seats. 


A 5.9 magnitudeearthquake was felt in Arunachal Pradesh and bordering areas of Assam earlytoday. The Geological Survey of India, Kolkata Superintendent said, as perpreliminary report the epicenter of the earthquake is at 33 km north-west ofAalo, the headquarter of West Siang District of the state. It’s depth isreported to be 14 Kilometre below the surface and was very shallow. No casualtyor damage is reported so far from the state.


The Meteorological Department has issued a freshyellow weather warning for thunderstorm in Himachal Pradesh.The Shimla MeTcentre forecast thunderstorm accompanied with hailstorm at isolated places inhigh and low hills of the state today. In Delhi, MeT office has forecast partlycloudy skies for today. The maximum and the minimum temperatures are likely tohover at around 41 and 23 degrees Celsius.


The NIA has arrested an alleged member of anISIS-inspired terror module that was planning to carry out terror attacks inand around the NCR and Uttar Pradesh. The NIA officials said, Mohd Faiz, aresident of Delhi, was taken into custody. He will be produced before the courtin Delhi today. The NIA spokesperson said, the investigation has revealed thathe was closely involved in the procurement of arms and ammunition for the groupto carry out terrorist acts.


The US has saidthat Chabahar port project won't be impacted by sanctions on Iran. A StateDepartment Spokesperson said, the Chabahar port project, being developed byIndia in Iran, will not be impacted by US President Donald Trump's decision notto renew exemptions that let eight countries including India to buy Iranian oilwithout facing American sanctions. Official said, reconstruction assistance andeconomic development for Afghanistan, which includes the development andoperation of Chabahar Port, is a separate exception.

Earlier, the UShad said that India, China, Japan, South Korea and Turkey will no longer beexempt from the sanctions if they continue to import oil from Iran after theirwaivers end on 2nd of May.


A direct flightbetween Delhi and Dhaka will start from the 13th of next month. The state ownedairline of Bangladesh ‘Biman Bangladesh’ will restart its Dhaka-Delhi-Dhakaroute after a gap of more than six years. Currently there are no direct flightsbetween the two cities.


India has beennominated as the “Guest of Honour” country at the 29th edition of the Abu DhabiInternational Book Fair beginning today. Indian Ambassador to the UAE, NavdeepSingh Suri said that India's selection as the guest of honour reflects thestrong relations between the leaderships and the people of the UAE and India.He added that 30 publishing houses from India will take part in the fair. Indonesia has released a special commemorative stamp onthe theme of Ramayana to mark the 70th anniversary of establishment of itsdiplomatic ties with India. A specially signed version of the stamp will be ondisplay at the Philately Museum in Jakarta. In a statement, the Embassy ofIndia in Jakarta yesterday said the stamp, designed by renowned Indonesiansculptor Padmashri Bapak Nyoman Nuarta, featured a scene from Ramayana in whichJatayu valiantly fought to save Sita.



In IPL, Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad bysix wickets in Chennai last night. The hosts chased down a 176 run target withone ball to spare. For the Chennai, Shane Watson contributed maximum 96 runsoff 53. Today,Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Kings Eleven Punjab. The match is slatedto begin at 8:00 in the evening.


Indian shuttlersPV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and Sameer Verma will play theirsingles matches today in the Badminton Asia Championships at Wuhan in China.Indian shuttlers will also be seen in action in the Doubles categories today.

India will belooking to end its 54-year-old title jinx at the Championships.  It was Dinesh Khanna who had become the Men'sSingles champion in 1965. Last year, Saina and HS Prannoy had won bronzemedals.


In the Asian Athletics Championships, India won twosilver medals and one bronze in Doha last night. With this, India stood fourthin the medal tally with two gold, five silver and six bronze at the end of thethird and penultimate day. Indian heptathlete Swapna Barman and the 4x400 metermixed relay team clinched a silver each.


In boxing, eightIndians including Shiva Thapa and veteran L Sarita Devi have entered thesemifinals at the Asian Championships in Bangkok.Joining Thapa in the men'ssemifinals were Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Satish Kumar, Ashish Kumarand Ashish in their respective weight categories.
