The Election Commission has ordered to stop online streaming of a web series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi till further orders. In its direction to the producers, the poll panel has cited its earlier order banning a biopic on Mr Modi, to place a similar ban on the web series titled "Modi - Journey of a Common Man". The poll panel also asked the producers to remove all connected content of the web series and send a compliance report immediately. It said it is apparent that the five-episode web series showcases different phases of life of Prime Minister Modi from childhood to becoming a national leader and such content can affect the level playing field in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.


In Madhya Pradesh, the District Election Officer, Bhopal today issued a notice to BJP candidate Pragya Singh Thakur, seeking an explanation for her comments on late Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare. She has been asked to submit her response within a day. The District Election Officer informed that they took suo-motu-cognisance of the comments under the Model Code of Conduct. Pragya had made the controversial remarks while addressing BJP workers in Bhopal on Thursday.


The Election Commission has removed Superintendent of Police of Malda district in West Bengal, Arnab Ghosh, from his post. It has appointed Ajoy Prasad in his place. Opposition political parties had raised questions about Mr. Ghosh's neutrality. He was allegedly involved in Saradha Chit fund scam.

Voting in Malda North and Malda South Parliamentary constituencies, along with Jangipur, Balurghat and Murshidabad seats will take place in the third phase on next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission-appointed Special Police Observer Vivek Dubey reached Malda to review security situation ahead of the polls.


Campaigning has intesified for third phase Lok Sabha Elections with political parties making all efforts to woo the voters.

116 constituencies, spread over 13 states and 2 Union Territories, will go to polls on Tuesday.

Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said if he returns to power, corruption, dynastic politics, loot in the name of the poor and politics of caste and religion will stop. He was speaking at an election meeting at Forbesganj in Bihar. Mr Modi alleged that the Congress party had put vote bank politics above the national interest while it was in power at the Centre. He said Opposition parties are spreading lies that if he returns to power, reservation system will be tampered with.

Later, speaking at a rally at Alampur ground in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi said, the country has achieved many milestones in sectors like sanitation, bank accounts and Ujjwala scheme  because of a powerful government at the center. He said that speed of development has increased in the last 5 years in the country.

"प्रगति की गति को एक मोदी ने नहीं बदला है इसे बदला है आप सभी ने ये तभी संभव हो पाया है जब आपने एक मजबूत सरकार को पूर्ण बहुमत दे कर के बैठाया"

Earlier, addressing a Vijay Sankalp rally at Numais in Etah district, Mr. Modi said, people want a strong and stable government at the Centre.

Addressing an election rally in Bilaspur city of Chhattisgarh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, if his party comes to power, it will launch a surgical strike on poverty. Mr Gandhi alleged that through demonetization, the hard earned money of the poor was taken and given to a few rich people.

Earlier, speaking at a rally at Supaul in Bihar, the Congress Chief announced that his party would extend 33 per cent reservation to women in Parliament, state Assemblies and Central government jobs as well, if voted to power. Mr. Gandhi blamed the Modi government for weakening the economy, joblessness and hitting small shopkeepers due to demonetisation and GST. Mr Gandhi said,

"कोसी के लोगों को चोट पहुंची है, दर्द हुआ है, नुकसान हुआ है। 1100 करोड़ रूपये दो दिन के अंदर यहां भेज दिये गये। कोसी में बाढ़ आई तो नरेन्द्र मोदी जी ने आपको पांच रूपये भी नहीं दिये।"


In Bihar, JD(U) President and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addressed election meetings in Supaul and Madhepura and sought votes for speedy development of the country. RJD leader Tejaswi Prasad Yadav addressed election meetings in Khagaria and Madhepura.

In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, BSP chief Mayawati and RLD chief Ajit Singh addressed joint rallies at Rampur and Firozabad. Addressing the rally, Ms Mayawati said,

"कांग्रेस पार्टी के केन्द्र में अधिकतर राज्यों में भी लम्बे अरसे तक रहे शासनकाल में इनकी अधिकांश रही गलत नीतियों की वजह से ही फिर इस पार्टी को केन्द्र काफी राज्यों की भी सत्ता से बाहर होना पड़ा।"

Speaking at the rally, SP Chief AKhilesh Yadav said,

"अगर कोई कारीगर रहा होगा, ज़रदोज़ी करता रहा होगा, कोई बुनकर रहा होगा तो नोटबंदी के सामने सबके सब काम बर्बाद हो गये।नोटबंदी में कहा कि हम कालाधन ले आयेंगे, भ्रष्ट्राचार खत् हो जायेगा लेकिन देश में कालाधन नहीं आया। पूरा का पूरा पैसा लेकर के बड़े-बड़े उद्योगपति भारत छोड़कर के चले गये।"

Election Commission has declared by-election to Agra Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh, on the 19th of May. Notification will be issued on the 22nd of April.

In Karnataka, BJP president Amit Shah held a road show in Bhadravathi. Former Chief Ministers B S Yeddyurappa and S M Krishna addressed public rallies in Thirthahalli. Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah addressed rallies in Davangere and Dharwad.

"B Y Raghavendra of BJP and Madhu Bangarappa of JD(S) contesting from Shimoga Parliamentary constituencies are sons of former Chief Ministers namely B S Yeddyurappa and late S Bangarappa. Out of eight assembly segments in Shimoga, BJP had won 7 and Congress only one in Bhadravathi during the 2018 assembly polls. Madhu had lost to his brother Kumar Bangarappa of BJP during the assembly polls. By election for Kundgol and Chincholi assembly seat will be held on May 19 and last day to file the nomination is April 29 and last day to withdraw the nomination is May 2. In Gujarat, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Congress leader Shatrughna Sinha along with other leaders campaigned in the state.

In Assam, Chief Minister and BJP leader Sarbanand Sonowal addressed several poll rallies for AGP candidates in Barpeta and Dhubri constituencies. Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar campaigned for the party candidate in Kokrajhar constituency. Congress leaders, including state President Ripun Bora, Bobeeta Sarma, also addressed rallies.

In Kerala, BJP president Amit Shah attended a road show in Pathanamthitta while campaigning for NDA candidate K. Surendran. Later, he addressed a gathering urging people to support Surendran. He also addressed a public meeting in Alappuzha. 

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed poll campaigns in Wayanad from where her brother Rahul Gandhi is contesting. She accused NDA government of betraying people's faith. She also addressed a farmers' meet.


Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi today said that reputation is the only thing which a judge has. Justice Gogoi was speaking during a specially convened hearing in the Supreme Court where he, along with Justices Arun Mishra and Sanjiv Khanna, heard allegations of sexual harassment against him by a woman as reported by some on line portals. He said if a judge's reputation is attacked on baseless allegations of sexual harassment, no sane person will come forward to take up judgeship. Justice Gogoi said independence of judiciary is under "very serious threat" as some "bigger force" wanted to "deactivate" the office of the CJI.

Describing the allegations of sexual harassment against him as unbelievable, Justice Gogoi said a larger conspiracy was behind it and he would not stoop too low even to deny these allegations. The CJI said this issue has cropped up when a bench headed by him is scheduled to hear many sensitive cases next week and this is also the month of Lok Sabha elections.


A Delhi court today issued a production warrant against alleged defence agent Sushen Mohan Gupta arrested in the AgustaWestland VVIP choppers scam case. Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar issued production warrant against Gupta after Tihar Jail authorities could not produce him. The court directed the jail authorities to present him before the court on Monday.

Earlier, the court dismissed the bail plea of Sushen Mohan Gupta. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had opposed Gupta's bail plea, saying there was a likelihood of him fleeing the country like 36 businessmen, including Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, who had criminal cases against them.


The National Investigation Agency, NIA, today arrested a person from Delhi in connection with its probe against an ISIS-inspired group. The group was allegedly planning suicide attacks and serial blasts, targeting politicians and government installations in Delhi and other parts of the country.

In a statement, the NIA said the arrested person is a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh and had formed a pro-ISIS module with the help of accused persons arrested earlier, to wage war against the Government of India. He is the 13th accused to have been arrested in the case. The accused was one of the key conspirators in planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh.


In IPL Cricket, Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in Jaipur. Rajasthan achieved the target of 162 runs with five balls to spare.  Asked to bat first, Mumbai made 161 for the loss of five wickets.

The match between Kings Eleven Punjab and Delhi Capitals is under way at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Put into bat, Punjab were 107 for 5 in 13.2 overs, a short while ago.

In tomorrow's matches, Sun Risers Hyderabad will face Kolkata Knight Riders at 4 p.m. in Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore meet Chennai Super Kings at 8 p.m. in Bengaluru.


The Asian Weightlifting Championships began in Ningbo, China today. The competition will continue till the 28th of this month. As many as 278 participants from 28 nations and regions, including China, Japan, South Korea, India, Iran and the North Korea have registered for the competition.

Former World Champion, Mirabai Chanu will spearhead India’s challenge at the Championship.


The Election commission has issued a notice to Congress leader, Navjot Singh Siddhu for seeking votes on religious lines during a rally in Bihar.  The Commission has asked him to file his reply by tomorrow.  The Poll Body said that prima-facie, it found his appeal urging people to vote for Congress on religious lines as violative of the Model Code of Conduct.


The Asian Athletics Championships will begin in Doha tomorrow. The first day will decide eight gold medals. From the Indian perspective, the women's 400 metres race will be the most anticipated one. Sprint sensation Hima Das will be running in the preliminary round in the morning while the final will be held in the evening.
