Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi again, while BJP President Amit Shah will fight from Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Senior party leader and Union Minister Rajnath Singh will fight from his sitting Lucknow seat, Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur and Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore from Jaipur Rural seat. The BJP last night released its first list of 184 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls covering 20 states. Senior party leader JP Nadda announced the name of candidates in New Delhi.


"The Central Election Committee meeting was held on 16th , 19th and 20th of March, and it was presided by honourable President Shri Amit Bhai Shah Ji और उसमे हमारे भारत के प्रधान मंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी, गृह  मंत्री श्री राजनाथ सिंह जी, with  मंत्री अरुण जेटली जी और हमारी External Affairs Minister सुषमा स्वराज जी और सभी Election Committee  के सदस्य, सभी बैठकों में उपस्थित थे और कुल मिलाकर के हम लोगो ने उसके बारे में चर्चा की."  


Union Ministers Smriti Irani will try her fate from Amethi Parliamentary constituency, DV Sadananda Gowda from North Bangalore, Kiren Rijiju from Arunachal West, Gen. VK Singh from Ghaziabad, Dr Mahesh Sharma from Gautam Buddh Nagar and actor turned politician Hema Malini from Mathura.


Poonam Mahajan has been fielded from Mumbai North Central, Dr Jitendra Singh from Udhampur, Khalid Jahangir from Srinagar, KJ Alphons from Ernakulam and K Rajasekharan from Thiruvananthapuram.Baijayant Jay Panda who had joined BJP recently has been given ticket from Kendrapara in Odisha.


The BJP Central Election Committee also approved names of 17 candidates for Bihar and it has been sent to state committee for announcement. On the other hand, the seat sharing deal of the grand alliance comprising Congress, RJD and others will be announced in Patna this afternoon.


Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has announced a list of all 17 candidates for Lok Sabha elections in the state. Our correspondent reports that at least half a dozen new faces have found place in the list.


"Former MP Nama Nageswar Rao, who regained to TDP and Joined TRS a day before, has been given Khammam ticket. Among the new faces, Marri Rajasekhar Reddy who has been given ticket to contest from Malkajgiri son-in-law of state Labour minister Malla Reddy. Another heir of two senior TRS leaders also have been given ticket they including Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yada’s son Sai Kiran who will be contesting from Secunderabad and Dornakal MLA Redya Naik’s daughter M Kavita who has been given party ticket for contesting Mahaboobabad. For the Assembly elections, the BJP has released names of 100 candidates in Odisha. Leader of party in the Assembly Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo has been again fielded from the Patnagarh seat while former Minister Jay Narayan Mishra will contest from Sambalpur. Former Minister Dr. Damodar Rout, who recently joined the BJP, leaving the BJD, will fight from the Ersama-Balikuda seat.

The Congress also released the names of 45 candidates for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. It has also announced names for three candidates for three Lok Sabha seats in the state. They are Ramana Kumari Pedada from Vishakahpatnam, N Narasimha Rao from Vijaywada and J L Narasimha Yadav from Nandyal Parliamentary Constituency.


Meanwhile, there has been no tie up between Telugu Desam Party and Congress for both Parliament and Assembly elections this time. TDP will go to polls alone for Lok Sabha elections.


Vyricherla Kishore Chandra Deo is contesting for Lok Sabha from Araku Parliamentary Constituency from Telugu Desam Party while, his daughter V. Shruthi Deivi has filed her nomination from Congress for the same Araku Parliamentary Constituency  against her father.

In Jammu and Kashmir, three terrorists were killed in separate encounters with security forces yesterday. Security sources said, two terrorists were killed during a counter terrorist operation which was launched in Kalantra Kandi Kreeri area of Baramulla district. Three security personnel were injured in the operation.


Another terrorist was killed by security forces at Mir Mohalla in Hajin area of Bandipora district. Meanwhile, an encounter is underway between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district. Security sources said, at least two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has slammed the Congress-led UPA for the  vicious theory of 'Hindu terror' which was coined during the UPA Government. In a blog, Mr Jaitley said that the 'Compulsive Contrarians' adopted it and Wednesday's verdict by the Court has judicially put the last nail in the coffin of the so called 'Hindu terror theory'. He said it was a conspiracy to give a bad name to the otherwise liberal majority community in India.

In Iraq, about 100 people, mostly women and children, died yesterday as an overloaded ferry packed with families celebrating the Kurdish New Year sank in a swollen river in Mosul. There was an outpouring of grief among residents who only this year resumed the annual festivities on the banks of the Tigris after the northern city’s recapture from the Islamic State terror group.

The death toll in cyclone Idai that lashed three southern Africa countries has surpassed 500, according to officials. Hundreds more feared dead in towns and villages that are completely submerged. It has affected more than 1.7 million people, according to estimates.


In Zimbabwe, a week after the cyclone, flooding still raged as the official death toll has risen to 259. In Mozambique, 242 lives perished while 56 lost their lives in Malawi.

European Union leaders have agreed on a plan to delay the Article 50 process, postponing Brexit beyond 29th of March. United Kingdom will be offered a delay until May 22, if MPs approve the withdrawal deal negotiated with the European Union next week. After a meeting, the EU said Britain could postpone its departure until May 22 if the UK Parliament approves Prime Minister Theresa May's divorce deal with the bloc next week.


In a press conference with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Council President Donald Tusk said that Mrs May has accepted an offer of two options for short delays to the date of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.

United States President Donald Trump has said it is time to recognise Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, which it captured from Syria in 1967. In a tweet, he said after 52 years, it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel's Sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

India has bagged 368 medals  - 85 Gold, 154 Silver and 129 Bronze at Special Olympic Games in Abu Dhabi. Our correspondent reports that the eight-day extravaganza finally drew to a close in a spectacular ceremony last evening.


"The closing ceremony was the perfect finale to seven days of sporting success, bravery and celebration of the human spirit. The finale saw global superstars perform at the Zayed Sports stadium at Abu Dhabi and ended with an impressive firework. Speaking to Prasar Bharti , Victor R Vaz, who is the head of the Indian delegation said that ‘it was a big success for the special athletes. They have participated , won ,conquered and are now going back to India’ . He attributed this success to India and the parents of all the special athletes. Mr Vaz thanked the Government of India  for their continual support in providing camps and giving training coaches for the special athletes. KANCHAN PRASAD, AIR NEWS, DUBAI."


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian medalists. In a tweet, he said it is a proud day for the county. Mr Modi said, the fortitude and accomplishments of the sports persons will inspire millions.

In football, four time defending champions India will face hosts Nepal in the final of 5th South Asian Football Federation Women's Championship in Biratnagar, Nepal today. The match will begin at 2.45 in the afternoon. Our correspondent reports that this will be fourth title clash between the two teams.


"India has an excellent record in the championship. Since the inception of the tournament in 2010 India has won all 22 matches. Expressing confidence in her team coach Maymol Rocky has said that players are eager to clinch their fifth SAFF title in a row. Keeping in view the recent encounters between the two sides, the final is expected to be a thrilling one. In November 2018, two teams played a one each draw, while at the Hero Gold Cup in Bhubaneswar last month, Nepal defeated India by 2-1. Raj Kumar, AIR News, Kathmandu."

  • Being the day after Holi, there are no newspapers today but here's a review of the online editions of various papers.

  • All papers have prominently covered BJP's first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls. The Hindustan Times says, " BJP first list out, PM to contest from Varanasi. Amit Shah from Gandhinagar." The Hindu reports, "Modi gets Varanasi again. Shah replaces Advani in Gandhinagar".

  • Papers have also covered the follow up to Nirav Modi's arrest in the UK. The Mail Today headline reads, "No Bail, Just Jail for Nirav," adding " 'Jewel Thief' caught, extradition next step."

  • News papers are splashed with colourful photographs of Holi celebrations in different parts of the country. The Hindu carries a picture of the Rajasthani Kshatriya community celebrating traditional Holi with flowers and colourful umbrellas as their dance props at the Aai Mata temple in Dapodi.

  • In an epic saga of digital "proportions where the winner keeps changing hands almost every other second, India's T-Series has become the most subscribed You Tube channel in the world.  The Times of India writes, "T-Series is originally the most subscribed YouTube channel in the world".

  • With more political parties resorting to Social Media as a potent campaigning tool, The Business-Standard writes, "Lok Sabha polls: Over 30,000 political ads on Facebook since February".

  • With more and more people migrating to bigger cities, The Hindu in an exclusive reveals, "22 Lakh migrated from north Andhra in last decade, says study adding "Lack of agricultural activity cited as major reason".

  • The Hindu reports of an unusual birth.  A Columbian woman has given birth to a baby whose abdomen contained the tiny, half-formed-but still growing - body of her twin sister. "A twin inside a twin: an extraordinary birth in Columbia".
