Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects at Kurukshetra in Haryana today. He will dedicate to the nation the National Cancer Institute at Bhadsa in Jhajjar district. The institute is the state-of-the-art tertiary cancer care-cum-research centre constructed at the AIIMS Jhajjar campus. The 700-bed hospital will have facilities like surgical oncology, palliative care and nuclear medicine, besides hostel rooms for doctors and attendants of cancer patients.
An official release said, Mr Modi will also inaugurate Employees' State Insurance Corporation's (ESIC) medical college and hospital in Faridabad. This will be the first ESIC medical college and hospital in north India. The 510-bed hospital will have state-of-the-art facilities. ESIC provides social security to the insured persons and their beneficiaries, especially to worker population and their dependents.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of National Institute of Ayurveda in Panchkula which is being set up at Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple Complex. It will be a national-level institute for Ayurveda treatment, education and research.
Foundation stone of Sri Krishna Ayush University in Kurukshetra will also be laid by Mr Modi. It will be the first university related to Indian system of medicine in Haryana as well as the first of its kind in India.
Another foundation stone to be laid relates to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay University of Health Sciences in Karnal.
Mr Modi will also lay the foundation stone of 'Battles of Panipat Museum' at Panipat. The museum will honour the heroes of various battles of Panipat.
The Prime Minister will participate in Swachh Shakti-2019 and distribute the Swachh Shakti awards. He will visit the Swachh Sundar Shauchalay exhibition in Kurukshetra and address a public gathering. More from our correspondent :
"Swachh Shakti -2019 is a national event which aims at highlighting the leadership role played by rural women in Swachh Bharat Mission. Women Sarpanchs and Panchs from all over the country will participate in the event. Best practices from grass root level in the rural areas for Swachh Bharat will be shared by them. During the event, the Prime Minister will give away the Swachh Shakti awards. Mr Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Shakti programme in 2017 from Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Vadra's husband Robert Vadra and his mother will appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Jaipur in Rajasthan today for questioning in the Bikaner land scam case. Our correspondent has filed this report :


"The ED in 2015 had registered a criminal case, taking cognisance of FIRs and chargesheets filed by the Rajasthan police after a Bikaner tehsildar's complained about alleged forgery in the allotment of land in Bikaner district. The ED's quizzing of Robert Vadra is likely to centre around his alleged connection with a firm - Ms Skylight Hospitality Private Limited - which had purchased land in the area. In this case, the agency had summoned Vadra thrice but he failed to appear and later approached the Rajasthan High Court. On January 21, the Rajasthan high Court had asked mother-Son to appear for the ED investigation. Jitendra Dwivedi, AIR News Jaipur."

Questioning of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will continue at the CBI Office in Shillong, Meghalaya for the fourth consecutive day today in connection with the Saradha Chit Fund scam case. Former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh's questioning by the agency in the case ended yesterday, while Kumar's was extended by another day. He is likely to be questioned on the Rose Valley scam.
Kumar had led the Special Investigation Team formed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to probe the Saradha scam before the case was handed over to the CBI by the Supreme Court. He is accused of tampering with key evidences in the case.

The Income Tax Department has busted a nexus of hawala operators who were running a money laundering racket in Delhi estimated to be worth over 20 thousand crore rupees. Official sources said, a series of raids and surveys were conducted by sleuths of the Delhi investigation unit of the I-T Department over the last few weeks in different business areas of old Delhi. The operations led to unearthing of illegal financial activities by three groups of operators.
A survey was conducted on one such group in the Naya Bazar area, that led to detection of bogus billing of about 18 thousand crore rupees. The sources said, the group had floated a dozen bogus entities for providing fake bills. In the second case, a money laundering racket was unearthed where current transactions in shares were fraudulently camouflaged as being sales of old shares held for years. The magnitude of the purported scam is estimated to be over one thousand crore rupees. The department similarly conducted searches against a group and found undisclosed foreign bank accounts and a well established racket of claiming bogus duty draw back or GST through over-invoicing of exports. Preliminary estimates of such bogus exports is more than 1,500 crore rupees.

In Delhi, nine people lost their lives in a fire that broke out at a hotel in Karol Bagh area early this morning. Delhi fire services said, two persons have been seriously injured in the incident. 26 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. Firefighting and rescue operations are underway. 25 persons have been rescued, so far.

The Indian Air Force has airlifted over 700 people stranded due to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway following heavy snowfall. More from our correspondent : 
"Indian Air Force pressed two C-17 Globemaster aircrafts into service between Jammu and Srinagar yesterday and airlifted a total of 707 stranded passengers. The aircrafts carried 301 passengers in first sortie and 406 in second sortie. Air Commodore, Jammu SK Mishra perspnally supervised the entire air lifting operation at Jammu airbase. All the passengers were also provided eatables/food packets by the Tiger Division of Army at Satwari, Jammu. RK RAINA, AIR NEWS, JAMMU."

The Government has said that Rajiv Mehrishi as Economic Affairs Secretary, never dealt with expenditure proposals from the Defence Ministry. In a release, the government said, any files relating to Defence procurement were dealt by the Expenditure Secretary in the Finance Ministry and not by Rajiv Mehrishi as Economic Affairs Secretary. The clarification comes after the Congress alleged conflict of interest and asked Comptroller and Audit or General Rajiv Mehrishi to recuse himself from auditing the deal as he was the finance secretary when the Rafale deal was negotiated.

The Supreme Court has directed the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) to decide within three months on a representation seeking guidelines for redefining the term 'minority' based on state-wise population. A bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, told the lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay to re-file his representation to NCM, asking the minority panel to take a decision as early as possible, preferably within three months.

The Parliamentary panel on Information Technology has summoned Twitter head Jack Dorsey to appear before it on the 25th of this month. The panel met the officials of the microblogging site in New Delhi yesterday on safeguarding citizens rights on social news media platforms. The committee's Chairman and BJP MP Anurag Thakur said after the meeting that the Twitter head and senior officials have been summoned on the issue.

The Uttarakhand government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the recent Hooch tragedy in Haridwar district. The SIT will be headed by IGP of Garhwal Range Ajay Rautela.

Iraq has dismantled the biggest cell of the Islamic State (IS) terror group in the western province of Anbar and captured 186 of its terrorists. Baghdad Operations Command said, a joint force captured the biggest IS cell responsible for suicide attacks, planting roadside bombs and assassinating military personnel.

On to Cricket, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved up a notch to grab a career-best second position in the ICC rankings for Twenty-20 bowlers.
Kuldeep scalped two for 26 in the final T-20 against New Zealand recently, which ultimately India lost by four runs to go 1-2 down in the 3-match series. There is no other Indian bowler in the top-10. In the rankings for batsmen, Rohit Sharma is at seventh, while Lokesh Rahul has slipped to the 10th spot. Skipper Virat Kohli's absence from the series against the Kiwis forced him to drop four places to be 19th.
