  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approves Numaligarh Refinery capacity expansion project worth over 22 thousand crore rupees.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has decided to expand the capacity of Numaligarh Refinery in Assam to 9 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum from 3. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, it involves setting up of crude oil pipeline from Paradip to Numaligarh and petroleum product pipeline from Numaligarh to Siliguri at a cost of over 22 thousand crore rupees.

"आज कैबिनेट कमिटी आन इकोनॉमिक अफेयर्स ने एक बहुत ही अहम निर्णय लिया ।जो नुमालीगढ़ रिफाइनरी है असम मे उसकी जो कैपेसिटी है उसको सीधा तीन गुना करने का निर्णय  पर एनम से बढ़ाकर नौ मिलियन मीट्रीक टन  पर एनम लगभग बाईस हजार पांच सौ चौरानवे करोड़ की लागत से ये प्रोजेक्ट अगले चार बर्षों मे पूरा किया जाएगा "

Mr. Goyal said, the Union Cabinet has approved expenditure sanction of over 4200  crore rupees for Integrated E-filing and Centralized Processing Centre 2.0 Project. He  said, it will help in improving tax payers' awareness and education through continuous engagement. It will also help in faster processing of returns and issue of refunds to the tax payers' bank account directly.

"इनकम टैक्स का जो फाइलिंग का पोर्टल है,और जो सीपीयू सेंटर है इन दोनों को इंटीग्रेटेड करके एक इंटीग्रेटेड फाइलिंग एंड सीपीयू  सेंटर के प्रोजेक्ट को आज मंजूरी दी गई है।ये नई सुविधा जब एक बार लागू हो जाएगी जिसको लगभग अठारह महीने लगेंगे सको बनाने में उसके बाद तीन महीने और के बाद चालू हो जाएगा ।टेस्टिंग के बाद,वो 63 दिन के बदले वो प्रोसेसिंग एक दिन में हो पाएगा "

In other decisions, the Cabinet has approved recapitalisation of Export-Import Bank of India to the tune of 6,000 crore rupees and an increase in the authorized capital of Exim Bank from 10,000 crore to 20,000 crore rupees. Mr Goyal said recapitalisation bonds will be on the lines issued to Public Sector Banks. EXIM Bank is the principal export credit agency for India and infusion of capital into it will enable it to augment capital adequacy and support Indian exports with enhanced ability.

The government also gave its nod to Revised Cost of Estimates of over 3639 crore rupees for 13 new Central Universities. The amount has been sanctioned for recurring cost and creation of necessary infrastructure for the completion of campuses of these universities.

Cabinet has also given its approval to regularisation of Pay Scales of below board level executives in National Hydroelctric Power Corporation Ltd, North East Electric Power Corporation, THDC India Ltd. and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. Over 5000 executives of hydro CPSEs enrolled will be benefited by the decision.


The Budget Session of Parliament will commence  on 31st  of this month. The session will begin with the address of President Ram Nath Kovind to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament at 11.00 AM in Central Hall. The Interim Budget will be presented on 1st of February. The session will conclude on the 13th of next month.


President Ram Nath Kovind today approved the elevation of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari to the Supreme Court. Justice Khanna is presently a judge of the Delhi High Court. Justice Maheshwari is the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi had recommended their elevation to the apex court.


Minister for Water resources and River development Nitin Gadkari has said that micro irrigation is a game changer in agricultural development. Speaking after inaugurating a three-day International Micro irrigation conference at Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Mr Gadkari emphasised on new technology, new innovation and new research for agricultural sector.

"Micro irrigation system is very important for the development of agriculture sector and the rural ecnomy but at the same time the most important thing is the technology. I know that many of the micro irrigation companies in israel they have got lot of research and because of the research now every day the technology change. We need the standardisation in the technology, we need life of the technology should be more and cost effectiveness is equally important."


British Prime Minister Theresa May will face a no confidence vote tonight. This comes after the UK Parliament rejected Ms May's Brexit deal by 230 votes. Soon after the defeat, Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn submitted a motion of no-confidence against Ms May's government. The defeat has triggered a political chaos that could lead to a disorderly exit of Britain from the European Union or even a reversal of the 2016 decision to leave. The deal, sets out the terms of Britain's exit from the EU on 29th of March.

Several European leaders have expressed dismay and regret over defeat of Brexit deal in UK Parliament. They have warned that London was running out of time.


Gandhi Peace Prize for 2018 will be conferred on Yohei Sasakawa who is the Goodwill Ambassador of the World Health Organization for Leprosy Elimination. The award will be given to Mr Sasakawa in recognition of his work towards eradication of the disease in India and across the world. Ekal Abhiyan Trust has been chosen for the award for year 2017 while Akshaya Patra Foundation and Sulabh International will share the award for 2016. Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari bagged the award for 2015.Gandhi Peace Prize carries one crore rupees and a citation.


The workers’ and employees’ union of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) today called off its nine day-old strike  after accepting the '10-step' pay hike to be granted to them by way of an interim measure by the civic transport undertaking's management. The BEST Union Leader Shashank Rao made this announcement at a rally in Mumbai this afternoon after a division bench of Bombay High Court ordered the BEST union to withdraw the strike within one hour. This will bring relief to lakhs of commuters in the metropolis.


External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said,  Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas Sammelan, beginning on the 22nd of this month in Varanasi will be focusing on connecting new generation of Persons of Indian Origin with their home country. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, she said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Sammelan and on the same evening, film actor and BJP MP Hema Malini will perform Gangavataran on the bank of Ganga river.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who was also present at the press conference said,

The Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh is attracting a huge gathering of devotees every day. More than two crore devotees took holy dip yesterday at Sangam. Elaborate arrangements have been made to keep the Mela area clean.

Our correspondent reports, to create a sense of cleanliness and sanitation among public, a high-tech exhibition has been organised at the venue.

"Prayagraj Kumbh is not only witnessing religious and spiritual activities but also creating a lot of awareness on social and other issues including  cleanliness. Swatchh Bharat Mission- Rural has  set up a high tech exhibition in Sector 6 of the Kubh Mela. The exhibition contains digital platforms in the name of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath including others. Visitors are showing  keen interest in message on cleanliness by puppet  show. A good number of visitors are also flocking  on the  Kiosk  where visitors take pledge for their contribution for cleanliness and instantly get certificate.  MS Yadav air news kumbh Mela prayagraj."

President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Kumbh Mela tomorrow where he will take part in several programmes including a puja at Sangam.


Benchmark indices today remained almost flat however they closed in green for second session in a row amid mixed Asian markets.

"The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange added three points to settle at 36,321. The Nifty at National Stock Exchange also ended up by four points at 10,890. The rupee today weakened 21 paise to 71 rupees and 24 paise against the US dollar. Extending its upward trend for third straight day, gold prices today gained 65 rupees to 33,190 rupees per 10 gram at Delhi bullion market. Silver also followed the trend and surged by 300 rupees to 40,500 rupees per kg. And ... Brent crude prices, in intra day trade, were at around 60 dollars and 30 cents per barrel. At the Khelo India Youth Games in Pune, players were seen in action in various events including Judo, Basketball, Boxing, Hockey, Kabaddi and Volleyball.

In Judo, Delhi ended up with 21 medals, comprising 12 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals to top in the discipline. Delhi was follwed by Punjab, with 4 gold. Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and hosts Maharashtra bagged three gold medals each.

On the Shooting range, 4 gold medals were decided today.

In Khelo India Youth Games today’s first Gold medal was grabbed by Anmol Singh and Priya Raghav of Haryana in 100 meter Mix Air Pistol. Second Gold went to Gurnihal Singh Garcha of Punjab in SKEET event for Under 21 Boyes. In Under 17 Girls SKEET Darshana Rathore of Rajasthan grabbed Gold. Gold in 50 meter rifles went to Varsha from Tamilnadu.

In Tennis Mahak Jain - Madhya Pradesh, Nitin Sinha - West Bengal,Mihika Yadav - Maharashtra, Priyanshi Bhandari - Gujrat, Paramveer Bajawa - Chandigadh, S.M.Kumar - Tamilnadu and Drush Sunish of Maharashtra entered Finals in their respective categories.  Under 17 girls from Maharashtra and Delhi entered in Kho Kho finals today.  Nitin Kelkar for AIR News Pune.

Maharashtra is currently leading the overall  tally with 177 medals including 64 Gold followed by Delhi with 121 medals  and Haryana with 112 medals.


Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth have entered the second round of the Malaysia Masters in Kuala lumpur today.

Saina, the only Indian in women's singles event beat Hong Kong's Joy Xuan Deng  14-21, 21-18, 21-18. Kashyap trumped Denmark's Rasmus Gemke while Kidambi Srikanth  defeated Angus Ka Long NG of Hong Kong . 

Women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy overcame Hong Kong's Tsz Yau NG and Sin Ying Yuen.

But it was curtains for Indian mixed doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy.


In Tennis, defending champion Roger Federer reached the third round of Australian Open for a 20th straight year, beating Britain's Dan Evans  in Melbourne today.  A dominant Rafael Nadal also reached the third round , overwhelming Australia's Matthew Ebden . Defending woman champion Caroline Wozniacki also safely sailed through.
