An agreement on Renukaji Dam Multipurpose Project was signed in the national capital today among the Centre and the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. The agreement was signed in the presence of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari. Chief Ministers of all the six states were also present on the occasion.
Under it, three storage projects are proposed to be constructed on the river Yamuna and two of its tributaries - Tons and Giri in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. These include Lakhwar project on river Yamuna in Uttarakhand, Kishau on river Tons in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Renukaji on river Giri in Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gadkari said, the project will meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of these states.
"पेयजल जो समस्‍या है विशेष रूप से राजस्‍थान और दिल्‍ली इनके लिए बहुत बड़ी राहत मिल जाएगी। दिल्‍ली में करीब यमुना की टोटल कैपेसिटी 160 प्रर्सेंट बढ़ जाएगी और इसके कारण ये पानी पीने के लिए और सीचन के लिए उपलब्‍ध होगा, जिसमें उत्‍तर प्रदेश, राजस्‍थान, दिल्‍ली और हरियाणा इनका बहुत बड़ा फायदा होगा। दिल्‍ली में आने वाले 50 साल तक पीने के पानी की कोई समस्‍या नहीं रहेगी और राजस्‍थान जो टेल ऑन पर है उनको काफी बड़े प्रमाण पर पीने के पानी की समस्‍या भी सुलझाई जाएगी और खेती के लिए भी पानी मिलेगा। देरी से क्‍यों न हो सभी राज्‍य सरकार के सहयोग से एक अच्‍छी एचीवमेंट आज हुई है।"
Mr Gadkari also said once the project will be over, water dispute between states will also come to an end.

A two-day meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Council will begin at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi today. BJP President Amit Shah will inaugurate the convention. Briefing media in New Delhi, party's youth wing president Poonam Mahajan said, around 12 thousand delegates from all parts of the country will attend the convention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the concluding session tomorrow. 
Our correspondent reports that the party has invited all elected members ranging from those in local elections to its MPs besides organisational leaders from across the country for the meeting.
"The national council assumes significance in view of the upcoming general elections this year and the meeting will deliberate on party's strategy  for the  polls  among other issues. The Narendra Modi government's social justice plank with its outreach to Dalits, backward classes and general category is likely to be a key theme at the meeting. The government's measures for farmers,  various schemes for the welfare of the poor and economic growth will also be discussed. The meeting is  expected to pass  economic and political resolutions. ISRO is well prepared to meet the targets of launching Gaganyaan manned mission to outer space by December 2021. Addressing Media  in Bengaluru today, ISRO Chairman Dr. K Sivan said, a human space centre has been setup for this mission. He said, under the Gaganyaan project, three astronauts will be sent to outer space for seven days and brought back.
The Chairman said, 332 launches are planned this year including Chandrayaaan -2 mission to moon in mid April. Mr Sivan said, ISRO is conceiving a mission to Venus by 2023.
ISRO TV Channel will be launched in next 3-4 months. Under the outreach programme, ISRO will invite  meritorious students to its center for developing Nano satellites.

A Special CBI court in Panchkula will pronounce verdict in Journalist Ram Chandra Chhatrapati murder case today. Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is the main accused in the case who was jailed for 20 years in Sadhvis rape case. Our corespondent reports, Gurmeet Ram Rahim will be produced in the court through video conferencing from Sunaria Jail due to security reasons. According to Haryana Government spokesman , security has been beefed up in the state to keep law and order in control.

The Delhi High Court is likely to deliver its verdict today on Special CBI Director Rakesh Asthana's plea seeking quashing of the FIR against him. Justice Najmi Waziri reserved the order on 20th of last month on Mr Asthana and suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Devender Kumar's pleas seeking quashing of FIRs against them. Mr Asthana has said the cases were registered against them in an illegal manner with mala fide intention.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 15th Pravasti Bharatiya Divas at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The three day long event will attract many eminent persons of Indian origin from world over. Speaking to media in New Delhi , Minister of state in External Affairs General V K Singh today said the first day of the Divas will be dedicated to the youth. General Singh said, the dates have been decided keeping Kumbh Mela and Republic Day in view.
"ये प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस हम उत्‍तर प्रदेश में कर रहे है और जगह इसकी वाराणसी है। एक निश्‍चय किया गया कि इसको ऐसे किया जाए जिससे कि कुंभ के अंदर गणतंत्र दिवस परेड के अंदर भी हमारे प्रवासी जो है उनको देखने को मिल सके, उनको उसका लाभ हो सके कि वो इसमें जा सके। इसलिए हमने तारीख रखी 21,22,23,24 को हम कुंभ ले जाएंगे। 25 को वापस हम उनको दिल्‍ली ले आएंगे ताकि 26 को गणतंत्र परेड वो लोग देख सके।"

The Uttar Pradesh government today reduced the prices of urea fertilizer by 11 percent. The cut in fertilizer prices will be effective from tomorrow. State Government spokesperson said, now, the bag of 45 kilogram of urea will be available at the cost of 266 rupees  and 50 paisa instead of 299 rupees. At the same time 50 kilogram Urea bag will cost 295 rupees.
Our correspondent reports that this is an important step in the direction of government's effort to double farmers income by 2021.

Kumbh Mela 2019 at Prayagraj is all set to start from Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has visited Prayagraj several time and reviewed arrangement for the upcoming Kumbh. Millions of people from around the world are expected to travel to Prayagraj for Kumbh Mela this year. We have a report:-
"The Governor of Uttar Pradesh visited Ram Naik Kumbh yesterday and inaugurated Kala Gram (कला ग्राम)Village where artiste from various part of country will give their cultural presentations. Keeping in mind the huge gathering this time the area of Kumbh is increased from 20 to 45 squire kilometers. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place and the area is devided in to 20 sectors where Magistrate will have keen vigil. Uttar Pradesh Transport department has planed to run 6000 long root buses  and 500 city buses have already been started to facilitate the pilgrims at Prayagraj. MS Yadav AIR News Lucknow."

In Jammu & Kashmir, the snowfall, which started in Srinagar and different parts of Kashmir last evening, is likely to  continue for the next three days. The local meteorological department has said that cold conditions continued in the valley as mercury settled below the freezing point at most of the places. The authorities have also issued weather advisory. The Divisional administration said, it is ready to meet any eventuality in view of snowfall. More from our correspondent:-
"The Srinagar Jammu national highway has been closed for fresh traffic movement due to fresh snowfall and accumulation of snow besides slippery road condition at various places along the highway. A police control room official told AIR that only those vehicles are being cleared to reach Srinagar that had been stranded between Ramban and Qazigund-Jawahar Tunnel stretch due to bad weather yesterday. The historic Mughal Road in south Kashmir connecting Rajouri and other parts of Jammu province and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road are also closed for the traffic movement. Tariq Rather, air news, SRINAGAR"
Yesterday, a high-danger avalanche warning was issued for higher reaches of Baramulla and Kupwara districts, a medium-danger warning for Bandipora and Ganderbal districts and a low-danger warning for Anantnag, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Kargil and Leh areas for the next 24 hours.

In Delhi, the minimum temperature settled at 7 degrees Celsius today. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius. According to Met department, there is a possibility of light rain over the weekend. Eleven trains are running late due to bad weather.

In Rajasthan, 78 new cases have tested positive for swine flu. The disease has claimed 3 lives in last 24 hours in the state. Our correspondent has more:-
"Jaipur is the most affected city with total 197 cases. While swine flu claimed highest 9 lives in Jodhpur city. Here, 135 cases have been found positive, so far. Helth department has issued and 20 beds have been reserved in each district hospital. Sample collection facilities are being made available at the level of Community Health Centers. Repid response teams and 24X7 control room have been set up at each district headquarter. Jitendra Dwivedi, AIR News, Jaipur"

The US military has removed some equipments from Syria. A US defence official confirmed it yesterday following a report that the drawdown ordered by President Donald Trump is now underway. As per media reports, Trump's announcement on 19th December that he was withdrawing all American troops from the conflict-wracked West Asian country concerned allies and prompted the resignation of then defence chief Jim Mattis.
The removal of the equipment in recent days was first reported by CNN, which quoted an administration official with direct knowledge of the operation as saying it signalled the beginning of US withdrawal. Though, the removal of troops is not on the cards immediately, withdrawing equipment is a means of showing progress towards this goal.

In girls Under 21 category S. Bindyarani from Manipur bagged Gold model, Gauri Pandey from Uttar Pradesh won silver and Saloni Singh from Uttar Pradesh won bronze. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 191 points to trade below 36,000 mark at 35,915. In the afternoon Nifty at National Stock Exchange also slipped 58 points to 10,764 a short while ago.
The rupee at the forex market also weakened 12 paise to 70 rupees and 53 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
