Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, that if any power challenges India's sovereignty, the country's armed forces will give it a befitting reply. He said, India has always used its armed forces for self-defense and it will continue to do so. The Prime Minister was speaking at a function to mark the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Azad Hind Government at Red Fort in Delhi today. The Azad Hind government was founded on 21st October 1943 by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Mr Modi hoisted the national flag and unveiled a plaque in presence of INA veteran Lalti Ram, Netaji's grand nephew Chandra Kumar Bose, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma and several other dignitaries.
 
Paying  rich tributes to Netaji who was the Prime Minister of the Azad Hind Government, Mr. Modi said, Netaji had only one purpose in life and that was India's independence.
Mr. Modi said, balanced development of the country and an opportunity for every Indian in nation building were part a of the vision of the great leader.  Mr. Modi said that Rani Jhansi regiment was established by Netaji to empower women.
 
"देश की पहली सशक्‍त महिला रेजिमेंट भारत की समृद्ध परंपराओं के प्रति सुभाष बाबू के अगाद विश्‍वास का परि‍णाम था। तमाम विरोधों को दर किनार करते हुए उन्‍होंने महिला सैनिकों की सलामी ली थी। नेताजी ने जो काम 75 वर्ष पहले शुरू किया था। उसको सही मायने में आगे बढ़ाने का काम इस सरकार ने किया।"
 
Mr. Modi said 130 crore Indians are today moving ahead to build a new India which was also conceived by Netaji.

The Prime Minister today announced an annual award in the name of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for police and paramilitary forces for commendable contributions in disaster relief operations. Mr. Modi announced this while dedicating the National Police Memorial to the nation in New Delhi this morning on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said, police forces have foiled the designs of those who were trying to disturb the nation and were hatching a conspiracy to create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
 
"भारत माता के वीर सपूत नेताजी सुभाष चंद बोस जी के नाम पर प्रतिवर्ष 23 जनवरी उनकी जन्‍मति‍थि पर घोषित किया जाएगा और असंभव को संभव बना देने वाले अंग्रेजों को भारत छोड़ने के लिए मजबूर करने में बड़ी भूमिका नि‍भाने वाले हमारे सुभाष बाबू का नाम इस सम्‍मान का और गौरव बढ़ाएगा।"
 
The memorial has been built in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by police personnel since independence. Mr Modi also laid a wreath at the memorial in respect and memory of the police martyrs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, the government is strengthening  logistic support for the benefit of carpet exporters. Addressing the Carpet Expo at Varanasi through video conferencing this evening, Mr Modi said, the Centre is working expeditiously on providing showrooms and godown facilities to carpet manufacturers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met  the medal winners of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics which were  held in Argentina and felicitated them. According to an official release, the Prime Minister urged them to remain focused and work harder to achieve their goal of reaching the podium in the coming Olympics. Mr Modi assured the athletes that Government will provide adequate support and facilities to them. At a fuction, Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore also felicitated the medal winners of Youth Olympic Games 2018 . The function was organised by Indian Olympic AssociatIon in New Delhi.

In  Jammu and Kashmir, two Pakistan intruders were killed in a fierce encounter with the Army in Sunderbani sector on the Line of Control in Jammu today.  However in this encounter, three Indian Army soldiers also attained martyrdom. According to a Defence Spokesperson, one soldier also suffered grievous injuries in the encounter and had to be air evacuated  to Army Command Hospital, Udhampur. Two AK 47 rifles  and warlike stores  were recovered from the heavily armed slain intruders. Troops have launched massive search operation in  the area which was still going on when reports last came in.

Earlier, three Jaish-e-Mohammed  terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Laroo in Kulgam district this morning in Jammu and Kashmir. Talking to AIR, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said, the encounter is over. Two army personnel were also injured in the initial fire by terrorists when a cordon and search operation was launched in the area.
 
Meanwhile, three civilians, who were critically injured in a shell blast at the encounter site, have died in Srinagar hospital.

The Government has said that one lakh beneficiaries have received medical benefits for serious illnesses in hospitals across the country under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana within one month. Talking to media in New Delhi, Health Minister J P  Nadda said, the beneficiaries have availed the facilities through nearly 14 thousand government and empanelled hospitals.
 
"एक महीने के अंतर्गत एक लाख बेनीफि‍शरी ने प्रधानमंत्री जन आरोग्‍य योजना का लाभ उठाया है। लगभग 14 हजार अपने इंस्‍टूशन के माध्‍यम से इंपैनल हॉस्पिटल और गर्वमेंट हॉस्पिटल  से यह लाभ उठाया है और 32 स्‍टेट  .....इसके साथ जुड़ गई। प्रधानमंत्री जी का सपना कि गरीब और मार्जिन सेक्‍शनों की जो सोसायटी है जो वंचित है और अब वह स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य के लाभ से वंचित न रहे इसको हम पूरा करने में लगे हैं।"
In a series of tweets, Mr Nadda also said  that  the PMJAY has lifted the burden of hospitalization expenses off the poor man’s head by providing range of free medical treatments from laproscopy to brain tumor removal costing 30,000 rupees to 5 Lakh rupees. A 46 year-old from Madhya Pradesh admitted in Rewa, has become the 1,00,000th beneficiary under Ayushman Bharat PMJAY.

The Finance Ministry has  extended the due date for filing of  summary sales return GSTR-3B for the month of September by five days to the 25th of this month. With this extension, businesses which want to claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) benefit for July 2017 to March 2018 period can do so till  the extended period. The Finance Ministry in a statement said, the decision was taken in view of the apprehension expressed by  trade and industry relating to the earlier due date of the 20th October for claiming ITC Under GST for July 2017 to  March 2018.

The Poshan Abhiyaan (National Nutrition Mission) is one of the flagship programmes of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), which aims at improving the nutritional status of small children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. It intends to achieve the objective of reaching 10 crore people by 2020. Here is a Ground Report from Tiruchirapally :
 
"In Tamilnadu, the mission is being implemented in close coordination with the , the District Rural Development Authority and the Integrated Child Development Scheme .  It is being implemented in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu, including Ariyalur, Dindugul, Trichy, Virudunagar and Ramanathapuram. It is expected to be rolled out in the remaining 21 districts of the state by the next year.  The basic strategy is to focus on the first 1,000 days of a child, which includes nine months of pregnancy, six months of exclusive breastfeeding and then the period from six months to two years.
 
Devi, from Pandi, says that the scheme provides all the essential nutrients for her child.
 
 (My child has been registered in the nearest ICDS centre. Two or three nutritious dishes are provided there. Children- even grown ups-like these dishes. They ask for more of it. It provides children with all essential nutrients.)

The Central Pollution Control Board, CPCB today said the government has taken several steps to control air pollution in the national capital region.Talking to AIR, Member Secretary of CPCB,  Dr Prashant Gargava said, enforcement agencies have been directed to control emissions emanating from industries and construction activities.

In Afghanistan, at least eleven civilians were killed in a road side bomb blast in the eastern Nangarhar province today. Attahullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, said in Kabul that the victims of the blast include six children. The attack occurred on the second day of Afghanistan's parliamentary elections, which were extended because of attacks yesterday and technical issues that caused hours of delays.

India will face Japan in the Asia champions  trophy hockey tournament in Muscat, Oman tonight. Yesterday India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan with a 3-1 win to register their second consecutive win in the tournament.
 
Muhammad Irfan gave Pakistan an early lead in the first quarter but Manpreet Singh scored equaliser for India in the second quarter. India took the lead in the 33rd minute through a field strike and extended it to 3-1 in the 42nd minute.

India have won the first match of the five-match one day international Cricket series against the West Indies by eight wickets in Guwahati. Chasing a target of 323 runs, India made 326 in 42.1 overs, losing two wickets.  Rohit Sharma made a superb 152 off 117 balls and remained not out. Captain Viart Kohli made 140 off 107 balls. Virat Kohli was declared Man of the Match.
 
Earlier, put into bat, West Indies scored 322 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, losing eight wickets.  Shimron Hetmyer scored a fine 106 off 78 balls. The second one-dayer will be played in Visakhapatnam on the 24th of this month.

In Badminton, a valiant Saina Nehwal went down fighting to world number one Tai Tzu Ying in the 2018 Denmark Open final match today. Saina lost 13-21, 21-13, 6-21 to her Chinese Taipei opponent in a match that lasted almost an hour. Saina defeated Tai Tzu in 2013.
