In Sri Lanka, Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has said the telephone recordings of a former Minister and broadcasting it in public by the media demonstrate that the country's morality is deteriorating.

Participating in a programme, the Speaker said that although modern technology contributes to the well-being of a country, the society is seen to be moving towards deterioration due to its enslavement to technology.

The Speaker noted that mobile phone and modern communication methods have shattered the family relationships adding the countries who imported the technology have gone into a spiritual decline more than the countries that produced the technology. His comments came as telephone recordings of former Minister and MP Ranjan Ramanayke created a media sensation with dozens of media recordings in public domain.

Some of them are related to his conversations with judicial and CID officers which the government is investigating.

The Speaker said although the personal information that should not be made public is enjoyed as delicacies now, it will be greatly regretted looking back on these events after a long time.

The Speaker said Sri Lanka which is the main centre of Theravada Buddhism in the world should give Dharma Dana to the world.
