Rajya Sabha expresses condolence over Delhi fire incident

The Rajya Sabha today expressed condolence over the passing away of 43 people in a tragic fire incident in Delhi’s Anaj Mandi. In his observation, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu termed the incident as unfortunate and painful and wished speedy recovery of the injured persons. He also expressed concern over the inadequate safety measures in the building which caught fire. The House observed two minutes silence as the mark of respect to the departed souls.
Later during Zero Hour, Mr Vijay Goel of BJP said, no lesson was learnt from the Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy in the national capital. He said, large number of illegal buildings without fire safety measures and the city is vulnerable to fire hazards. Mr. Goel said, only ordering Magisterial Inquiry and announcing compensation are not sufficient and there is a need to work together to address the issue.
Mr Sanjay Singh of Aam Aadmi Party also expressed grief over the killing of people. He said there should not be any politics in the matter. Mr. Singh added that Delhi Government, MCDs, DDA and other agencies should work together to prevent such incidents in future. Binoy Vishwam of CPI also expressed anguish.
