Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision Ek Bharat as Shrestha Bharat was mooted for strengthening the unity and integrity of India. The Prime Minister envisages to enrich this concept to actively enhance interaction between people of diverse cultures living in different States and UTs in India.

The concept of EBSB was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31st October, 2015 on the occasion of the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. As per the programme, each year, every State/UT would be paired with another State/UT in India for reciprocal interaction between the people. It is envisaged that through this exchange the knowledge of the language, culture, traditions and practices of different states will lead to an enhanced understanding and bonding between one another, thereby strengthening the unity and integrity of India.

Speaking to All India Radio, Ashita Jolly said she has been staying in Visakhapatnam since her childhood. She said that since Visakhapatnam is her base it has been easy for her to adopt and imbibe two cultures of two different languages.

She said that this cultural connection between two varied states mooted by the Prime Minister brings immense joy. She expressed happiness that staying in Visakhapatnam helped her to learn Andhra Pradesh culture, tradition and practices.

India is rich with a unity and diversity background. States and UTs are to embark on a mission to enhance their cultural, academic and economic ties by entering into a wide range of mutual engagements with the paired States/UTs covering the spheres of music, drama, cuisine, language, history, tourism and other forms of exchange between the people.

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is said to be the brainchild of the Prime Minister to make the country united, strong and promote excellence in all walks of life by means of long-term inter-state engagements through cultural exchanges and education. Mutual understanding and trust are the foundations of India's strength and all citizens should feel culturally integrated in all corners of India.

"Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat '' the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a platform to unite  states/Union Territories to enrich the exchanges of culture said ADG, D.Murali Mohan, Regional Outreach Bureau Vijayawada.
