Maharashtra govt to conduct disease-wise survey of flood-hit areas

@NDRFHQ
Maharashtra government has said that it will conduct disease-wise survey of the flood-hit areas for effective response to the situation arising out of any outbreak. In a statement issued in Mumbai yesterday, the health department said the aid surveys are also being conducted on the basis of diseases like fever, diarrhoea and jaundice.

Public Health Minister Eknath Shinde said there are 570 medical aid teams in the flood-hit areas, of which 196 are in Kolhapur and 144 in Sangli, providing various health services.The release said health workers are asking people who suffer from diabetes, blood pressure and other illnesses to take pills daily to stay fit.Dr Pradip Vyas, principal secretary (health department) said the people staying in relief camps are also being given free pills that will last up to seven days.

Meanwhile, in view of the floods and resultant loss of lives in Western Maharashtra, Maharashtra Chief Minister and the Governor have cancelled customary events marking Independence Day. However, the CM will hoist the tricolour at Mantralaya in Mumbai tomorrow while the Governor will hoist the tricolour in Pune.

With water levels of Krishna and Panchaganga rivers receding, though still above danger mark, in worst-hit Sangli and Kolhapur districts, flood-ravaged western Maharashtra was limping back to normalcy yesterday with focus on rehabilitation of lakhs of people. As of Tuesday, 6.45 lakh people had been shifted to safety in Kolhapur and Sangli districts. While the death toll in five western Maharashtra districts over nine days due to flood-related incidents reached 49.
