IISc designs eye gaze controlled computer interface for people with SSMI

AIR PIC
The Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing in the Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science has designed eye gaze controlled computer interface for people with Severe Speech and Motor Impairment, SSMI, a condition caused by disorders like cerebral palsy.

The eye gaze controlled robotic arm that can be manipulated by eye movement for using computer will enable SSMI persons to use their eye gaze to perform mechanical tasks independently.

This interface is non-invasive, unlike other eye gaze tracking devices that use head mounted systems. The robotic arm is tested on Chennai-based Vidya Sagar Institute students with cerebral palsy.

The Project Lead and Assistant Professor at the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing Pradipta Biswas says that the robotic arm developed by them can be used by persons with SSMI for e-learning, for automative and aeronautical applications.
