No COVID-19 case reported from Sikkim in last 24 hours

Sikkim has not reported a single COVID19 case in the last 24 hours after reporting 22 new cases on Sunday. Total number cases stand at 125, of which 47 are active, 65 people have been discharged after recovery and 13 cases have migrated out.

In view of the surge in COVID19 cases among army and paramilitary personnel, Sikkim chief secretary SC Gupta convened a meeting with senior officers of the Army, ITBP, SSB and GREF yesterday to discuss the situation.

Mr Gupta sought information on the mechanism of quarantine administered by these forces in Siliguri, West Bengal and emphasized on enhancing the frequency of testing to ensure that cases are detected early. He also suggested the forces to start randomized testing before they travel to Sikkim.

Mr Gupta informed that returnees from the army and paramilitary will be tested mandatorily at the Rangpo checkpost once antigen testing commences.

In Sikkim, Melli check post has been closed for entry, and army and paramilitary forces have been asked to use the Rangpo checkpost for entry and exit.
