US Prez Trump issues new executive order to combat terrorism

DD NEWS (FILE PIC)
United States President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary yesterday that would enhance the country's ability to target terrorists and those who finance their activities to deter perpetrators of terrorism worldwide. Utilizing the new order, the Treasury sanctioned over two dozen individuals and entities from 11 terrorist groups, including Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

At a joint news conference with the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said, we have leaders, operatives and financiers from over 11 terrorist organizations, including Iran's Quds Forces, Hamas, ISIS, Al Qaeda, and their affiliates. He added, it allows the US Government to better target terror group leaders and provides new tools to pursue individuals who participate in terrorist training.

The Treasury Secretary asserted that his department was enhancing efforts to deny terrorist access to the financial system.Mr Pompeo described the executive order as the most-significant to counter terrorism sanctions authority since September 2001.

Today marks the 18 years of 9/11 terror attacks in the United States. On this day passenger planes hijacked by terrorist group Al Qaeda crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center killing nearly 3 thousand people and injuring over 6 thousand persons. 9/11 attack led to a global fight back against terrorism in which India has played a key role. Taking the battle against terrorism, US today issued a new executive order that will enhance the country’s ability to target terrorists and those who finance their activities, as well as identify, sanction and deter perpetrators of terrorism worldwide. AIR correspondent reports that the Global War on Terrorism was launched by the United States Administration after the attacks. Terror attacks in India by Pakistan based groups were treated by the international community as localised affair arising out of the long-held animosity between the neighbours. But the 9/11 attacks shattered the myth. From the beginning, terrorism is being used by Pakistan as a state policy. The world, in particular India, has suffered greatly on account of the activities by practitioners of state sponsored terrorism. Pakistan based groups were involved in all terror attacks against India. Yesterday in UNHRC India said, it is time to collectively take decisive and firm action against terror groups and their abettors who threaten the fundamental human right to life.  India appealed the international community to work together in the fight against terrorism.
