Prez Sirisena brings Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corp under Minister of Defense

AIR PIC
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has brought the state television Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation under Minister of Defense, which is under his purview. President issued a gazette notification in this regard which came into effect from midnight.

According to the notification, the measure was taken for the implementation of programmes for the promotion of peace, harmony and reconciliation among people whilst ensuring national security and creation of a higher media culture using state-of-the-art technology.

However, analysts believe the move may be yet another manifestation of continuing power struggle between the President and government led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremsinghe. President holds the Ministry of defense and environment and has previously abrogated several departments under it in a bid to take control of key government activities including law and order.
