Situation across J&K remains peaceful, with no untoward incident reported

The situation across Jammu and Kashmir, especially the Kashmir Valley, remained peaceful, with no untoward incident reported from anywhere today.

Briefing media persons in Srinagar, Government spokesperson Rohit Kansal said day time restrictions have now been lifted from 69 police stations across the Valley. In Jammu division, day time restrictions have been lifted from areas falling under 81 police stations. 


The spokesperson said that nearly 1,500 primary schools and 1,000 middle schools were opened across Kashmir Valley. However, he admitted that attendance continues to be very thin in the schools. He said the Education Department will make efforts to operationalise primary and middle schools at the earliest.  

Rohit Kansal said that from 17th August onwards, it has been observed that there has been a steady decline in incidents across the Kashmir Valley. However, he said that the threat of cross border terrorism still continues to exist. He added that security forces are maintaining a state of high to counter any threat.
         

The spokesperson further stated that as the next step towards operationalising and institutionalising Panchayati Raj mechanism in J&K, the government has taken an important decision to hold Block Development Council elections.
 
Meanwhile, Secretary of the J&K Rural Development Department, Sheetal Nanda, said preparations are on for holding elections to 316 Block Development Councils across J&K. She said that the 1st step to conduct reservation exercise has been completed in the Kashmir Valley while it is in the last stage in Jammu. The Secretary said the exercise will be completed by the end of September.
