Elaborate security & other arrangements in place for 3rd & final leg of polling in J&K tomorrow

In Jammu & Kashmir, the 3rd and final leg of polling in Pulwama and Shopian districts of South Kashmir in the three-phase schedule for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency is scheduled on Monday. 

Elaborate security and other arrangements have been put in place to ensure free, fair, peaceful and violence-free elections in highly volatile south Kashmir region. 

Over 5.22 lakh electors are going to exercise their franchise in the twin districts spread over six assembly segments. As many as 695 polling stations have been established across the districts for smooth conduct of the elections. 

District Pulwama comprises four assembly segments of Tral, Pampore, Pulwama and Rajpora while as Shopian has Wachi and Shopian segments. 

Pertinently, the main contest is between Hasnain Masoodi of  National Conference,  Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Indian National Congress and Mehbooba Mufti of Peoples Democratic Party. 15 other candidates including 10 independents are in fray for the Anantnag Parliamentary seat.

The Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency is spread over four districts comprising Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama. 

The Anantnag district with polling in first leg on April 23 recorded voter turnout of 13.63 % while Kulgam district which went to polls in 2nd leg on April 29 recorded 10.32 per cent poll. 

The voting timing has been fixed from 7 am to 4 pm. The separatist political amalgam “Joint Resistance Leadership-JRL” has called for shutdown in poll bound district and boycott of elections.
