Rajasthan passes 5% quota bill for Gujjars, four other communities

@RajGovOfficial
Rajasthan government on Wednesday passed a bill to provide five per cent quota in jobs and educational institutions to Gurjars and four other communities.

The government introduced the Rajasthan Backward Classes Amendment Bill, 2019, which was passed by the assembly.

The government has also decided to increase the ceiling of creamy layer from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.

The bill seeks to increase the backward classes' reservation from present 21 per cent to 26 per cent with five per cent reservation to Gurjars, Banjaras, Gadia Lohars, Raikas and Gadaria.

Assembly also passed a resolution and urged the Centre to incorporate it in the 9th schedule to ensure the reservation for these communities. The Gurjar community has been holding agitations since Friday across the state demanding five per cent separate quota for them.

After passing the bill Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot said that agitation should get over now. But, Gurjar leaders said that they will study the bill and then decide about future strategy.
