PM Modi inaugurates 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Varanasi in UP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh today. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that NRIs can play a great role in start up, stand up and in Defence manufacturing sector while working for the development of India. He called upon Indian diaspora to play a greater role in the development of the land of their forefathers.

Mr Modi said his government has taken many steps for the benefit of Indian Diaspora and many more initiatives are in progress for NRIs. He said the government will help NRIs in every possible manner.

Mr Modi added that the Government is going to start Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojna.

The Prime Minister said that the NDA government has used technology to eradicate the menace of corruption. In last 4.5 years more than 5 lakh 80 thousand crores have been directly transferred to bank accounts of the beneficiaries of various government schemes.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that India's image as a powerful country has improved leaps and bounds due to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mrs Swaraj remembered former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for starting Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

Addressing the large gathering of NRIs, Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, who was chief guest of the function said, it is the most precious gathering of India diaspora. He said that whole word has appreciated the initiatives of Prime Minister Modi. He lauded many schemes of central government like Skill India, Digital India and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.

AIR correspondent reports that PM Modi had lunch with dignitaries and later hold talks on bilateral issues with his counterpart of Mauritius,  Pravind Jagnauth. NRIs participated in large numbers in the Plenary Sessions and gave their suggestions for the development of new India.

Plenary Session on Role of Indian Diaspora in capacity building for affordable solar power was chaired by MoS for External affairs  (Retd) Gen. Dr V  K Singh and NRIs also contributed with positive suggestions for successful implementation of the Government policies. In the evening NRIs enjoyed cultural programme organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Classical dancer and noted actress Hema Malini also performed special dance programme based on the themes of holy Ganga and Lord Shiva.
