PM Narendra Modi urges police forces across country to be vigilant in countering dark forces of radicalization

AIR
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the police forces across the country to be vigilant in countering the dark forces of radicalization and to engender trust among all communities.

Mr Modi was addressing the valedictory ceremony at the conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police at Kevadiya in Gujarat today.

Touching a note of caution, the Prime Minister noted that caste faultlines are being exploited by divisive elements for short term gains. He urged the police forces to continue working for the unity and integrity of India. Mr Modi exhorted to strengthen the forces that promote unity and isolate divisive forces at the grassroots level.

The Prime Minister stressed on the importance of Inter-State coordination in tackling crime. Mr Modi also emphasized on the need for capacity building in the police forces on the subject of cyber security.

He praised the police forces for their success in countering terrorism and limiting it to a small geographic area of the country. The Prime Minister said the people of India are in particular proud of the police force in Jammu and Kashmir for their role in countering terrorists and successfully engaging them.

He appreciated the officers for looking at all issues in the national perspective. He described it as the biggest achievement of the changed nature of this annual Conference over the last few years. Mr Modi said, police personnel work hard in adverse circumstances yet, they often do not receive the recognition they deserve.

He called upon senior officers to work towards greater recognition of police personnel who work for the benefit of the people.

The Prime Minister said that social media can be used effectively for this purpose. Mr Modi appreciated the parade by the police forces of various States yesterday, at the Statue of Unity. He said it would truly have been inspirational for all those who witnessed it.

Mr Modi announced an annual Sardar Patel award for contribution towards national integration, which will be open to all Indians. The Prime Minister also presented President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service to Intelligence Bureau officers.

He also released a commemorative postage stamp on the National Police Memorial. He said the memorial should become a source of inspiration for all.

The Prime Minister also launched the portal of the Cyber Coordination Centre. This is envisaged as an umbrella platform that will help Law Enforcement Agencies coordinate their efforts to solve all cyber crimes and incidents.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministers of State for Home Hansraj Ahir and Kiren Rijiju were present on the occasion
