Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today approved various infrastructure proposals for Mumbai and its adjoining areas. He was chairing the 146th Meeting of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority - MMRDA. Mr. Fadnavis approved the Detailed Project Reports - DPRs of three new Metro lines with a total cost of around 18,000 crore rupees.

The proposal for constructing Gaimukh to Shivaji Road Metro 10, Wadala to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Metro 11 and Kalyan to Taloja Metro 12 projects will now be sent to the state cabinet for approval.

As the Chairman of MMRDA, Mr. Fadnavis also approved the establishment of Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited. It will be an autonomous body that will deal with the operation and maintenance of Metro and Monorail. The decision is likely to create more than 1,000 new vacancies.

The MMRDA’s green policy for METRO rail line was also launched today. It will help the authority to optimize energy consumption right from the planning stage. It will include initiatives like developing green metro stations, using LED smart lighting, optimising air-conditioning load and investing in solar energy for elevated stations. To ensure planned development of Mumbai’s neighbouring districts, the entire Palghar district, Vasai, Alibaug, Pen, Panvel and Khalapur areas of Raigad district have been brought under  the jurisdiction  of MMRDA.

Mr. Fadnavis inaugurated the “War-Room and Innovation Centre” established by MMRDA. The war room will streamline mega projects and tackle emergencies. It will also undertake research activities to ensure total development.  Mr. Fadnavis today also inaugurated MMRDA’s new logo on the occasion, saying the change was pertinent in the wake of the changed and enhanced scope of work undertaken by MMRDA.
