Goa government will introduce a six-month ban on fish import effective from Monday.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji this evening, state health minister Vishwajit Rane said, the decision has been taken in view of continuing uncertainty about the presence of formalin in imported fish in Goa. Mr Rane added that the situation would be assessed after six months for further decisions.

Mr Rane stressed that the government will not compromise on food safety standards. He said, guidelines issued by the state Food and Drug Administration department have to be followed.
