Hurricane Florence smashes into US East Coast

In the US, Flooding from Hurricane Florence swept across the Carolina early today. 

The massive storm surged towards the coast, threatening record rainfall and leaving scores trapped by rising waters and thousands without power.

Emergency crews in North Carolina scrambled to rescue hundreds of people stranded in their homes by floodwaters unleashed by Hurricane Florence. 

In the riverfront town of New Bern, which was hit by a huge storm surge as the sprawling Category 1, hurricane came close to making landfall. 

Around 200 people have been rescued so far.
