Historic Ramlila of Ramnagar beings in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on  Thursday, the historic Ramlila of Ramnagar started with the worship of Lord Ganesha and Shri Ramcharitmanas.
 
45 days long Ramlila which was recognized as an intangible world cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2005 is also an unforgettable experience which attracts locals as well as foreign tourists in large numbers.
 
AIR Correspondent reports, the Oldest Ramlila of the world started with Ganesh pooja here at Ramlila Pakki in Ramnagar, Varanasi.
 
This was second Ganesh poojan started with worship of Ramcharitmanas, Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesha while the first poojan took place in Sawan month.
 
Reciting of Balkand, a part of ramcharitmanas and training of different characters started from today which is strictly played only by the male actors.
 
After Ravan’s Birth on Anant Chaturdasi play of Ramlila will start on theatre sets at different locations under open sky.
 
More than 200 years old Ramnagar Ramlila, perhaps the only ancient art form which is untouched by technology has no loud speaker or electric lights.
 
Hundreds of regular spectators called Nemis recite Ramcharitmanas while the play is being performed.
 
One Nemi Utpal Pathak told AIR that full play will start form 23rd of this month and will end few days after dussehra when Rajgaddi ritual happens.
 
One can see a congregation of Sadhus, tourists, locals and scores of foreigners who will throng here after few days to see the historic leela which symbolizes Indian culture and its beauty.
