Vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu has asked the political parties and Members of Parliament to introspect on frequent disruption of sessions. He called upon parliamentarians and legislators to uphold high standards and traditions of Parliamentary democracy.

Speaking at the meet and greet program held in Hyderabad last evening by friends and well wishers to mark the completion of one year in office, he said Parliament should be the role model for state legislatures and local bodies. He also observed that the levels of tolerance in public discourse have come down and constructive criticism was missing.

He stressed on the need for coming out of the colonial mindset, he called upon people to strive for public movement to protect and promote native languages. Sharing his experiences on the occasion, the Vice President said he is focussing on interacting with Universities, Scientific Institutions, farmers, promoting arts and culture and encouraging NGOs to take part in the development process.

As per the plea, the Maharashtra government issued a notification in February 2015 stating that there was no requirement for a public hearing for the Shivaji Memorial project. However, the MCZMA and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests had already granted several necessary approvals. Pegged at a cost of Rs 3600 crore the statue according to the state Govt will be the tallest in the world.
