Over 5 crore poor people came out of poverty in last four years: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the government is committed to bringing the last person in the society into the mainstream of development.

In a video interaction with BJP Mandal chiefs and party workers of Varanasi district and city through his Narendra Modi App from his residence in New Delhi today, Mr Modi said, over 5 crore poor people came out of poverty in the last four years.

He said, common people can now travel by air through the UDAN scheme. He said, more toilets were built in the last four years than in 67 years after the Independence. He said, according to the World Health Organization, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has saved lives of three lakh children in the country. Mr Modi said, the country is moving ahead with scale and speed.

 The Prime Minister appreciated the hard work and spirit of BJP workers of Varanasi to protect the democratic values and rights of citizens. Mr Modi said that all-round development of Kashi is going on and the city is being rejuvenated. He said, it is the responsibility of the party workers that the benefits of the government's public welfare schemes reach the poor and common people. He said, on the occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas from 21st to 23rd January next year NRIs from all over the world will arrive in Varanasi. He said, people of Kashi will show them the city's spiritual culture and the culture of Indian values. He appealed to people of Varanasi to contribute to the success of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas and for the global identity of Varanasi. He also guided the party workers regarding the preparations for the event. The Prime Minister also appealed to the party workers in Kashi to make successful the "Swacchata Hi Seva" campaign which will begin from 15th of next month till 2nd October.
 Mr Modi also expressed condolences over the sad demise of senior BJP worker and social worker Sandeep Agrawal who passed away last night in Varanasi.
