RS Chairman, LS Speaker appeal to MPs to contribute generously for Kerala flood relief

PIB
Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan have appealed to the Members of Parliament to generously contribute for Kerala flood relief.

Mr Naidu and Mrs Mahajan today met this evening in New Delhi and discussed the scale of damage in Kerala. An official release said, both have donated their one month salary towards Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and urged MPs to consider doing so.

Mr Naidu said, members are aware that there has been large-scale devastation in various parts of Kerala due to floods in which many people have lost their lives and thousands are left stranded besides heavy damage to property.

He said, keeping in view the intensity and magnitude of the floods in Kerala, the Government has declared this a calamity of a severe nature.

As per MPLADS Guidelines, if the Government declares a calamity as of ‘severe nature’, each Member of Parliament can contribute up to one crore rupees for relief and rehabilitation works.
