India, Seychelles committed to maintaining peace and stability in Indian Ocean region: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said India and Seychelles are committed to maintaining peace and stability in Indian Ocean region.
In his joint press statement with Seychelles President Danny Antoine Rollen Faure following delegation level talks in New Delhi this afternoon, Mr Modi said India and Seychelles have agreed to work together on a project to develop a naval base at the Assumption Island keeping each other's concerns in mind after talks.
Mr Modi said India has given 100 million dollars to Seychelles on credit for the defence sector.
Mr Modi added that both countries respect the core values of a democracy and share the geo-strategic vision to maintain the peace, security and stability in the Indian Ocean.
Six agreements were in signed several fields including education, cyber security, and cultural exchange following delegation-level talks between the two leaders.
President Faure, in his address, said the discussions were frank and productive. He said they want to make relationship result orientated.
The visiting dignitary was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan this morning. He also met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
